OPP Lays More Charges After Rondeau Park Fiasco

More charges have been laid after a rowdy Victoria Day long weekend at Rondeau Provincial Park.

After several days of investigation, the OPP say 19-year-old Dede Cato is accused of assaulting a warden at the park on May 20.

Police say Cato, a Windsor Spitfires prospect who played Jr. B hockey with the LaSalle Vipers this past season, was in the park unlawfully after hours at the time of the alleged assault.

Three campsite permit holders have also been charged and fined $125 for failing to restore the camp-site to its original condition.

Investigators say a person, who is too young to be identified, has been told to return property missing from the campground.

Over the holiday weekend, 114 people were evicted from 19 campsites but several of the youths came back the following night and were charged for entering the park after being removed.

A total of 35 charges, mostly for alcohol and trespassing, were laid during the long weekend and some washrooms and several campsites were left damaged.

Anyone with any information on these incidents can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667.
