Wallaceburg Outcry Over Four-Way Stop Removal

UPDATE: Four-Way Stop Removal Put On Hold

A Wallaceburg councillor is very upset about a four-way stop being removed.

Jeff Wesley says the all-way stop at Murray St. and Reaume Ave. is being replaced by a two way stop and an electronic pedestrian crossing on Friday.

A report came to council a while ago and Wesley says the issue didn't seem significant then, but now he's hearing complaints.

"It was not discussed in the context of construction on McNaughton, on Murray and having it occur in the midst of the school year," says Wesley.

The two way stop will control eastbound and westbound traffic on Reaume Ave.

The pedestrian crossing will be on Murray St.

Wesley says many community members want the 4-way stop removal to be delayed.

"They would like to see the four-way stop remain until at least after construction is done and then all that other confusion that's going on with construction on these two major roads will be complete and we can implement this when that's the only thing that drivers and pedestrians have to worry about," Wesley says.

Wesley is trying to get the change delayed but says that remains to be seen.

"[It] didn't seem like a significant thing at the time.  However, with construction on McNaughton and Murray St., it's become a significant thing because it's just adding to immense confusion down there with the traffic already," says Wesley.
