More Relay For Life Participants Needed

The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for more people in Chatham-Kent to stand up and walk for a cause.

The Relay For Life fundraiser is set to take place in Chatham next month for it's 15th consecutive year.

Cindy Vinall, senior manager of community offices for the Canadian Cancer Society, says they're hoping to get about 350 participants this year, but so far, only around 200 people have registered.

"We're encouraging everyone to bring together a team of family, friends, [and] co-workers; and join participants across Chatham-Kent and beyond actually, as we celebrate cancer survivors and honour those we've lost," she says.

In past years, Vinall says they've seen anywhere from 250-1,000 participants walk the track.

"We have a large group of folks out there, all for the good cause," she says. "We just ask people to register as soon as possible."

Vinall adds the event is something that can be enjoyed by everyone, at any age or fitness level. In addition, there will be entertainment and activities for people to do during the event.

"We really want to encourage everyone who has ever heard those words 'you have cancer,' to register as a survivor participant and enjoy the whole event experience -- or register as our survivor guest and celebrate with us through the survivor victory lap," says Vinall.

Relay For Life Chatham-Kent is taking place at the Chatham-Kent Athletic Complex on McNaughton Ave. E in Chatham on June 9, from 6pm-12am.

Those looking for more information on the event or those looking to register can do so by calling (519) 352-3960 or visiting the website at www.relayforlife.ca/chatham-kent.
