McGregor Wants To Live Stream Council Meetings

Not everyone is able to attend Chatham-Kent council meetings, so Councillor Carmen McGregor is asking for an alternative option.

A motion will go forward Monday night, for administration to make a report on the logistics of live streaming municipal council meetings.

"I would like to know all the different options," says McGregor. "There may be costs with some options. I've been told about live streaming on Facebook [and] you can pretty much do that without a cost."

Although council meetings are shown on CogecoTV, not everyone has cable service. McGregor says if there were an option to live stream, then more residents could tune in whenever they wanted to.

"People don't want to watch council on a regular basis but there may be an item of interest and they would like to be able to see the results," she says.

McGregor adds live streaming council meetings is something that has taken place in the past through the municipal website, but it stopped before her term.

"I just think we need to better communicate with all of the citizens in Chatham-Kent," she says. "So this is either find a way again to be able to watch it... through the municipal council website, or maybe Facebook, or some other form of live streaming."

If approved, administration will come back to council with a report by June 5.
