Green Means Go For Mental Health Awareness

The hospital in Chatham is shining green this week to support mental health awareness.

It's part of a larger campaign across the province.

For several years, the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and the Peace Bridge have been lit up with green lights to raise awareness for Mental Health Week.

The initiative has the full support of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance's (CKHA) new CEO Lori Marshall.

"I am proud to recognize our Mental Health and Addictions inter-disciplinary team for the compassionate, high quality care they deliver to our patients and their families," said Marshall in a release. "CKHA's green 'shine' will provide an important reminder to the community and initiate conversations among our family, friends, and neighbours about the importance of access to these services."

The Shine Green for Mental Health Week initiative was launched by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Ontario and Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO).

You can also participate by taking pictures near landmarks that are lit up green this week or by wearing the colour green and sharing photos on social media using the hashtags #GETLOUD and #kidscantwait.

A release from the CKHA says sharing those photos is a simple way for you to remind the community that mental health needs to be a priority and that wait times for services need to be cut down.
