Chatham Swimmer Going To Canada Summer Games

Chatham’s Genevieve Sasseville is getting ready to represent Ontario at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

The 14-year-old is one of 12 female swimmers -- 24 swimmers in total -- chosen to represent the province.

"I've been working at this for two years, going to all the camps and everything" she says. "I'm pretty excited about it. I think it'll be a great experience."

Sasseville was chosen for the team based on her swim times at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championship.

Although she is no stranger to competing, the Canada Summer Games will be her biggest challenge yet. However, Sasseville says she's going to treat it like any other competition.

"Sometimes the more nervous you are, it makes it harder," she says. "Of course it'll be a bit more challenging because you're representing a whole province at the Canada Games, rather than just yourself or your team. It's definitely going to be more nerve-wracking."

Coaches for Chatham 'Y' Pool Sharks, Kyle Pinsonneault and Brian Lindsay, say they're very proud of Sasseville.

"The Pool Shark Family is very happy and proud of her accomplishments and look forward to her performances in Winnipeg this summer,” says Lindsay in a media release.

The 50th annual Canada Summer Games will be held from July 28 to August 13, 2017.
