There's something new coming to Wallaceburg that'll help kids cool off this summer.
Chris Young, chairperson for the splash pad committee, says thanks to fundraising efforts and help from the municipality, a splash pad will be installed at Colwell Park sometime this summer.
"I think for the kids it's great," he says. "[The municipality] made some big investments in the playground equipment, and with the splash pad the park will be -- I think second to none in Chatham-Kent."
The municipality will help the committee by providing an interest-free loan of $50,000, which is to be repaid over the next five years. However, Young says they want to repay the municipality sooner rather than later.
"We are still fundraising, we still need $30,000 to put in the bank so that interest-free loan can be covered," he says.
Young adds next steps involve getting quotes, finishing up paper work, and putting out a contract.
"It'll be fun to finally see shovels in the ground," he says. "We're all excited as a committee to see this happen."
Details on the splash pad are unknown at this time, however, Young says the size will be close to the Port Lambton splash pad.
