Today Is National Day Of Mourning

Chatham-Kent is commemorating workers who have been killed or injured on the job.

Today is National Day of Mourning for victims of workplace accidents, and dozens of municipal employees observed a moment of silence at the Civic Centre this morning.

Mayor Randy Hope was a member of the labour movement when the concept of a day of mourning was first introduced. He says equipping people with the skills to work safely is needed in education, training and attitude.

The municipality's manager of occupational safety adds continued vigilance is needed at work and at home.

More than 80 countries recognize National Day of Mourning.
