United Way Celebrates 'A Fantastic Year'

Members with the United Way of Chatham-Kent are taking time to reflect and appreciate the work that is being done within the community.

The organization held their Annual General Meeting at the Kent 1874 this week.

CEO Karen Kirkwood-Whyte says the organization has much to be proud of, looking back at this past year's campaign.

"We had a fantastic year," she says. "We raised $1.7-million to provide funding for 34 different partner programs and direct services."

In addition to looking at the accomplishments as a whole, the 2016 campaign co-chairs Steve Pratt and Patricia Wright were recognized for their work.

"I think one of the things that really worked well for us this year was an attempt on our part to find two individuals who have been touched personally by some the programs and services that we fund," she says. "Between [Wright] and [Pratt], they have benefited from at least seven of our funded agency programs."

Looking ahead, Kirkwood-Whyte says they'll be putting together plans for this year's campaign, organizing special events, and getting ready for next year's campaign kick off in September.
