Getting Ready To Lace Up

Organizers with Run CK are getting ready for another year full of events.

The group met at the Black Goose restaurant in Wallaceburg Tuesday night.

"We formed this [Run CK committee] years ago," says Angelo Ligori, committee chairperson. "It's basically to look after all the races that are run in our community."

One of the organizers, Tom Slager, handles the "Harvest Run" for the United Way. He says by meeting they're able to compare notes and come up with ways to improve the events.

"This is an opportunity for us to get together because even after you've done it a number of times there's always something that you can fix," says Slager.

The organized events are to promote healthy living and raise money for certain organizations.

Ligori says between all the organizations involved, around $100,000 gets raised every year.

Jenny Jackson organizes the "Run for Mental Health" for the Mental Health Network. She says the funds raised are extremely beneficial to the organization.

"All of the money raised stays at the Mental Health Network and it supports programs and services," she says. "Without it we probably wouldn't have a lot of the programs that we have so the run is very important to us."

In terms of what races locals can expect this year, Ligori says a lot of them will be "repeats".

"We have a routine now," he says. "We kind of got a funk."
