New Tenant Named For Old Coffee Culture Site

There's something new going in at the corner of King St. and Fifth Ave. in downtown Chatham.

"Cup-a-Joe's" is slated to open on April 24 at the old Coffee Culture site.

It's leasing the space from Apollo Property Management.

Owner Joe Robertson says the shop will sell coffee, sandwiches and ice cream.

"It's going to be along the same lines as what it used to be.  It's going to be a little more upscale coffee house.  Everything you want, Americanos, Macchiatos but I'm also doing a lot more sandwiches than they did before, almost the bistro sandwiches," says Robertson.

Robertson, who was born and raised in Chatham, says he's trying to give a little town some Metropolitan flavour.

"I have an artisan bakery in Montreal which is going to send me bread, I have organic teas, coffee from Hawaii and tea from a small organic farm in southern California," he says.

Robertson says there are no immediate plans for expansion, but would like to open a bistro in Chatham someday.

Heather Woodhouse of Apollo Property Management says it's nice to have Robertson as a tenant because the coffee shop was missed.

"I think it was very missed by the community just in terms of the people that I've talked to missing having an easy location to come to for their pre-work coffee and after work hangout," says Woodhouse.
