Mixed Reactions On Changes To The CKHA

Locals are getting some one-on-one face time with top officials from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), but there are still some concerns.

The CKHA held a community engagement session in Blenheim at St. Mary's Hall, Tuesday night.

Chatham-Kent resident Linda MacDougall showed up and says she's happy with all the changes that have happened with the organization so far.

"I'm an optimist, so I believe that change is usually great," says MacDougall. "[For the board] to be so open to questions from the community tonight is a really good sign -- a very positive sign."

Merlin resident Becky Preston says she also likes how the community is being kept in the loop on what has happened and what still needs to be done.

"It is our health care that we're looking towards and I have faith in the CKHA," she says. "I think [it's] important that there's a face to the name and the positions."

However, not everyone is pleased with the changes that have happened since new leadership took over.

Former nurse Vera Brown says she's trying to understand how the system works now.

"Nowadays I just can't understand what's going on with it because you just don't seem to get the help you need," she says.

Brown adds she's not happy going from one doctor to another for medical care.

"I loved the system back then," says Brown. "I just wish it would go back to what it was."

The next information session will be at the Frank & Mary Uniac Auditorium at the CKHA in Chatham. It'll run from 7pm-9pm on April 19.
