Erie St. Clair LHIN Drafts New Business Plan

The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network has set its priorities for the next few years and they include an added focus on patients.

The LHIN plans to reduce re-admissions to hospital, improve occupancy and improve patient flow.

Other priorities for the LHIN include the emergency department, chronic disease prevention and mental health.

New CEO Ralph Ganter says the document is just a draft right now but the provincial budget should give the LHIN more direction when it comes down.

"It really is those relevant things that we know will carry on.  It'll just be a matter of which two or three things do you really focus on next year or the next fiscal year and this is giving us a template for that," says Ganter.

The LHIN says there will be four times the seniors by 2030.

Ganter says the idea of the business plan is to add value and efficiency to the process to look after taxpayers and hospital staff too.

"You always want to make sure that you have good value and for us we want to make sure we have the best possible patient experiences," he says.  "Part of that also is that we're actually getting the effect that the patients need and at the same time are we doing it as efficiently as possible so that we have resources for other priorities."

Ganter says the LHIN has a lot of options and the business plan gives it an idea of what to improve.

"When we actually see the provincial budget and when we have our mandate letter from the ministry, it'll give us more focus in terms of what activities we need to focus on next year," he says.  "What this early draft does is gives us a lot of options that we can drill down on once we get more provincial direction."
