Customers React To Possible Merger

Only a small crowd turned up for an information session hosted by Entegrus and St. Thomas Energy.

The meeting at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre Tuesday night gave officials from both utilities a chance to hear from customers about their possible merger.

Those who went had a chance to read the information boards set up along the walls and speak with representatives from both of the energy companies.

A St. Thomas resident who attended the session, Ange Thompson, had a few concerns going in.

"I actually work on the 'Hydro One Not For Sale' campaign so I'm very concerned with any energy mergers or privatizations," says Thompson.

She adds some of her concerns are in regards to a loss of jobs or an increase in rates. However, according to representatives from both Entegrus and St. Thomas, the merger would be beneficial for all parties involved.

Philip Shearer also had some concerns regarding costs.

"When you look at the Ontario hydro bill what the bill is for hydro and then the delivery charge... that's one of the things I'm looking [at]," says Shearer.

Only about a handful of people turned out for the beginning of Tuesday night's session, but there are other opportunities to ask questions.

An information session will be held in Strathroy on March 23 and another one will be held in St. Thomas on March 30.
