Two women are able to get some sense of relief after their ex-husband was sentenced in Chatham for bigamy.
Timothy Mielczarek was handed down a six month conditional sentence Wednesday, after being found guilty of the rare offence on February 6.
The 45-year-old Chatham man was charged with bigamy back in 2013.
Defence attorney Dave Jacklin says the law surrounding bigamy seems to becoming outdated as it's an offence not often seen in court.
"I thought it was a reasonable sentence in light of the circumstances," says Jacklin. "These cases just don't come up every day, as was pointed out by the judge."
However, Mielczarek's second wife -- who has asked not to be named -- says she struggles with the sentence that was handed down.
"I struggle with the fact that it's house arrest," she says. "Him being able to work in a six month house arrest sentence -- that makes me so upset."
She adds despite this, she's also relieved for the trial to be over.
"This has been four long years and I will have the impact of this for my entire life, as will my children," she says.
Mielczarek's first wife, Leanne Mielczarek, also shares in having a sense of relief.
"I'm just glad it's over, it was a long time coming," says Leanne.
