Plans for the Tim Hortons in Thamesville are coming along but hopes for a grocery store still linger.
East Kent Councillor David VanDamme says the idea of having a Tim Hortons built on London Rd., has been very well received within the community.
"It's truly a great project in the sense that Thamesville hasn't had any significant news like this in a very long time," he says.
Having said that, though, VanDamme adds he would still like to see a grocery store set up shop in town.
"Now I'll admit a grocery store would be the icing on the cake, but right now you need to deals with [what's] known," says VanDamme.
The project's site plan and zoning application was approved by council Monday night in a unanimous vote.
"It [will] increase traffic flow and if you can get people to come to Thamesville and enjoy a cup of coffee, hopefully they'll stick around [and] shop on the main street of Thamesville," says VanDamme. "These are all good things that any business and business owner in Thamesville could appreciate."
The site plan features a 2,400 sq ft restaurant, complete with a drive-thru, outdoor seating area, and parking lot.
