Positive Pot Reaction In Chatham

There's positive reaction towards what could be one of Canada's largest medical marijuana production facilities.

If approved by Chatham-Kent council and Health Canada, it'll occupy 12 acres at 715 Richmond St. in Chatham.

A man, who didn't want to be identified, tells BlackburnNews.com it's a good move.

"This town has to change. We're here secluded, we have no industry and nothing to fall back on, so, we need something... and maybe it's the beginning of something," he says. "I don't see the big deal with marijuana -- legalize it and tax it and get it over with.

Chatham-Kent police and fire have no objections to the facility.

The nearest home is 1,300 ft away and is well within the required setback of 300 ft.

The issue goes before Chatham-Kent council Monday night.

A woman who works nearby but didn't want to be identified, says it'll create jobs and boost business for nearby shops and restaurants.

"It's cool... we're going to be busy, if it happens," she says.
