Three Local Businesses Rise Up From The Ashes

Three Chatham stores devastated by fire on St. Clair St. last month are rising up from the ashes.

Sacwal Flooring, Lighting & Accent Gallery and Ideal Decorating are temporarily moving into the old Bargain Shop at Nortown Plaza and are scheduled to open February 21.

Jim Kelly of Lighting & Accent Gallery says it'll be great to get back into a showroom again.

"We have to be able to show this stuff," he says. "People who want a light fixture, they want to come in and look at it."

The blaze caused $3-million in damage but nobody was hurt.

St. Clair St. plaza owner Harry Verhey says the three stores will rebuild on the old site and hopes to be open by the end of the year.

"We've already met with an engineer, we're working on our site plan right now for the new building, we're working on pricing and that type of thing," says Verhey.

Verhey also says the new permanent building could have a new look.
