Tuesday Is International Safer Internet Day

February 7 marks the International Safer Internet Day.

The idea, according to OPP Sergeant Avery Bassett, is to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. Bassett says the OPP wants to help protect children and reduce their risk of victimization, adding "be aware of the potential threats that are out there on the internet."

You can find resources for children and parents at www.protectchildren.ca.

If you or someone you know is being victimized online you can make a report at www.cybertip.ca.

"Cyber bullying is huge, the sexting issue is huge, there's so much we can do to help educate from pre-school to teenagers," Bassett says.

She says if it feels wrong go speak to a safe parent about it.
