Meteorologist Warns Of Heavy Rain

Heavy rain is on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex for Tuesday.

Meteorologist Mark Schuster tells BlackburnNews.com that rain, heavy at times, is expected all day Tuesday.

Schuster says the frozen ground has a reduced its ability to absorb this rainfall, adding "because the ground is frozen and it's winter time you don't need as much rain to potentially cause issues."

Schuster says the area will get about 25 mm of rain beginning early Tuesday morning and ending in the evening.

Schuster says there may be a brief period of freezing rain overnight before the rain begins and "even a risk of a thunderstorm as well," he adds.

"There might ponding of water in certain areas and people's yards," Schuster says, adding that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Environment Canada warns that if visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Residents are also urged to keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.
