Lakeshore fire crews were forced to battle a large fire for hours, after the blaze broke out at a Stoney Point home.
The fire started at a house on St. Clair Rd. and Comber Side Rd., at the edge of Lake St Clair, just before noon on Thursday.
Deputy Chief John Quennell tells BlackburnNews.com the owners came home from shopping to discover the fire. He adds the family dog, a Labrador, perished in the blaze but there were no other injuries.
The house was demolished in the blaze.
Crews will be on scene until around 6pm.
The cause and damage are not yet known.
