Work Underway To Recruit New Hospital Board(s)

New governance models for hospital boards and directors are being reviewed by the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Supervisor Rob Devitt says the alliance now has clear expectations on the role that emphasize responsibilities, liabilities and requirements for those who want to serve on the board.

The old hospital board of directors has been dissolved and new CEO Lori Marshall will be joining CKHA March 1.

Devitt says the idea is not to fall back into financial and intimidation problems that led to an investigator and a supervisor.

"It's a very significant role with legal responsibilities and from there we'll engage people in a discussion of what's the right structure, so that'll come next," he says.

Devitt says it's too early to tell what the model will look like, but admits having more than one board is difficult and unique.

"I'm a big believer of going one step at a time and we have to come up with something that's going to work and be sustainable because what we had led to supervision, but I don't know what it's going to look like," he adds.

New leadership is also being rolled out to improve health and safety, and strengthen the workplace.

The new chief of staff is Doctor Pervez Faruqi.

Plans also continue for a Rural Advisory Committee.
