CK Police Budget Going Up Slightly

It's budget time for the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

The budget is up before municipal council for approval in a couple of weeks.

Chief Gary Conn says he's looking for a slight increase of about 2%, which basically amounts to a cost of living increase. He says there aren't any frivolous requests in the budget.

"This budget is fiscally responsible," says Conn. "We understand the pressures that not only our municipality, but all municipalities have given the economic times that we live in."

The chief says the budget meets the needs of his officers and even provides some new services, which will be discussed at the council meeting February 1.

Conn says he doesn't have a lot of wiggle room because the budget is 90% salaries and benefits.
