Maroons Head Coach Fired

The Chatham Maroons management has dismissed the team's head coach from his position.

In a statement issued Tuesday night, the hockey club says Brian Verbeek will no longer fill the role as head coach.

"The Maroons appreciate Brian’s contributions during his tenure in Chatham," the statement reads.

While they look for a replacement, Maroons management says assistant coach Bob Burroughs and Ryan Hope will act as interim head coaches.

Management has not given a reason for the coaching shake up and says there will be no further comment on the issue.

Verbeek, whose hockey career has spanned the OHL, IHL, and several leagues in Europe, was hired on as head coach back in May. The job was offered to Verbeek after former head coach Tyler Roeszler stepped down, following a year and a half in the position.

The Maroons return to the ice on December 22 when they take on the Strathroy Rockets at Memorial Arena.
