Preventing Stolen Christmas Parcels

With more and more people buying gifts online this Christmas, more and more parcels are being delivered.

And that can lead to gifts being stolen right off your front porch.

There are some things you can do to protect yourself, though.

"We're asking anyone who is about to receive a package, maybe let your neighbour know, and they can receive that package for you," says Renee Cowell, Public Information Officer, with the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Cowell says the problem isn't confined to big cities.

"Earlier last month, we had a painting that was delivered to a home here in Chatham, and prior to the owner coming home from work, that package was stolen," says Cowell. "So it does happen here in Chatham-Kent, we aren't immune to that."

Some ways to avoid having a parcel stolen; request a signature on delivery, have it sent to a different location, like your office, or have it held at the delivery company's office for pick up.
