Chatham-Kent police were accepting donations at their five stations across the municipality. On Friday, the effort paid off for Salvation Army officials.

With police often having to deal with situations in Chatham-Kent's lower-income areas, Public Information Officer Renee Cowell says they're fully aware of the impact a good deed can make in Chatham-Kent's poorer population.

"On a daily basis we see families in need here in Chatham-Kent," says Cowell. "So it's important that our officers participate in events like this, and help families in need this holiday season."

At last check, the Salvation Army was at 45% of its fundraising goal for 2016.
