Promoting The Trades

Manufacturing companies from across the region will be coming together under one roof this week to educate youth on career opportunities in the trades.

Members of the public are also invited to join them at the John D. Bradley Centre Wednesday evening to get an inside look at four specific trades: motive power, industrial, service, and construction.

Manufacturing Specialist Geoffrey Wright says students ranging from Grades 7-12 and their parents will be able to learn about different areas and get a hands-on experience in the process.

"The idea is to show students the innovation that's available through a career in a trade," says Wright.

According to Wright, opportunities in the trades seem to be popping up more often, so the event presents a platform for the younger students to get a better understanding of how the industry works.

"We're hearing from companies that are looking for experienced, educated, and skilled trades people for future careers," says Wright.

Locals who attend the event will also be able to hear from three keynote speakers.

"Intellitix will share their story about who they are, the business they're in, what they do, what they make, and how it's made," says Wright.

The event will take place at the Convention Centre on November 16, from 5:30pm-8pm.
