UPDATE: Structure Fire Sends One To Hospital

One person has been taken to hospital following a fire in Chatham Friday night.

CK Fire Services say three stations had been called to the scene after receiving calls of an explosion and fire on Queen St. around 9pm.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found an apartment and business fully engulfed in flames.

Fire officials say several people required rescuing. One person has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The fire had been completely extinguished around 1:30am on Saturday, and crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby units and homes.

Police and fire crews remain on scene today, while the Ontario Fire Marshal investigates what caused the fire. The investigation could take several days to complete due to the complexity of the incident.
