Two Hat Tricks Propel Maroons 8-6

Nolan VandenBoorn and Bryce Yetman each hit the three-spot as the Chatham Maroons beat the Lambton Shores Predators 8-6 Sunday night at Chatham Memorial Arena.

The potent Maroons offense outshot the Predators 58-36.  Alec Mackenzie and Austin Thompson got three assists apiece for Chatham while Andrew Kim got three of his own for Lambton Shores.

Lambton Shores put up a 3-0 lead in the first period with Keenan Dawdy starting things off at 3:21 in the period.  Andrew Kim put it in 58 seconds later.  Marcel Berube was responsible for the third goal close to the halfway point of the period.

The Maroons responded after the intermission with four unanswered goals of their own.  Austin Thompson added a goal to his three-assist night to put Chatham on the board at 7:59.  VandenBoorn's first goal came at exactly 11 minutes in to cut the Lambton Shores lead to 3-2.  Kevin Gursoy's stick would propel the puck into the net to tie the game up at 3-3 with 15-46 gone in the period.  Then Yetman would start his offensive night with a goal to put the Maroons ahead.  Wes Dobbin of the Predators would complete a power-play tally with 40 seconds left in the period to knot the game at 4-4 after 40 minutes of play.

The offensive seesaw continued in the third period as the Predators' Jared Lindsay gave his team the lead once more on a power-play goal at 2:32 in.  It would take just eight seconds for VandenBoorn to notch his second goal of the night to tie the game up once more.  The Maroons regained the lead a little over two minutes later with Yetman's second goal, a 6-5 Chatham score.  It would be 6-6 at 6:47 when the Predators' Ethan Sarfati slipped it past the Maroons goalie.  After that, though, it would be Chatham's game as Yetman and VandenBoorn each completed their hat tricks.

The Maroons currently sit tied for second place in the Western Conference with 27 points, two behind the LaSalle Vipers, who will be Chatham's next opponent, Wednesday night at the Vollmer Complex.  The Predators have 12 points and will visit Leamington on Thursday.
