Flaunting Healthy Living

You might see a sea of flannel down the streets of Chatham this weekend.

The third annual "Flaunt Your Flannel" 5km run/walk is taking place November 5, as part of the Maple City Mile initiative.

Race Director Doug Robbins says it's a family friendly event, meant to promote healthy living in the community.

"People can come out in their warm, cozy flannels," says Robbins. "It's designed to capture the attention of a lot of Chathamites and encourage a very healthy, friendly way to come out."

The event is a fundraiser, with a $25 entrance fee -- proceeds will go to the Maple City Mile.

Robbins says in the past the run hasn't generated a lot of money, but adds that it's more about raising awareness.

"It is designed to be a fun event, a family-friendly event and we think that in itself is successful, if we can get people in Chatham-Kent to move and take that first step towards a healthier lifestyle," says Robbins.

The Flaunt Your Flannel run is one of three runs the Maple City Mile hosts in Chatham-Kent.

The run will start at 9am behind the HealthPlex at St. Clair College.
