Busy Intersection Under Review

Chatham-Kent councillors all agree that the intersection of Ridge Line and Kent Bridge Rd. between Ridgetown and Blenheim is potentially dangerous and deserves a closer look.

During Monday night's council meeting, Councilor David VanDamme motioned for administration to conduct a collision report on the intersection, as well as specify the costs to install an LED flashing beacon and reduce the speed limit.

That motion passed with a unanimous vote.

"I'm glad to see the vote go the way it did," says VanDamme. "My gut says that it's going to be successful this time, that we're not just going to have a motion or a report that's tabled with no action."

As pointed out in council, installing LED lights or making changes to the speed limit are not the only options to ensure safety. However, VanDamme says those are the two options he is looking at, specifically.

"I hope that more discussion will come about and we can gently nudge administration - if it come to that," he says. "Right now I have a good feeling that everything is set in motion to go the way I think it should, with either speed reduction or LED beacons."

At this point, there is no word on when the report will be presented to council, but VanDamme says something like this takes time.

"To be fair to the process, we probably have to give it a month or six weeks time," says VanDamme.
