Chatham-Kent-Leamington MP Dave Van Kesteren says Canada shouldn't limit its trade focus solely on China.
This comes following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's trade trip to China, and Chatham-Kent's recent activity with some Chinese investors.
He reflects on the Conservatives' moves back when his party was in power.
"We tried to diversify and open up some new markets, and we were quite successful doing that," says Van Kesteren. "We did that with countries like Korea, and some other minor countries. But I think the biggest achievement was the European Trade Union. That agreement comes into effect next year."
Van Kesteren says China has to be acknowledged as an up and coming superpower, but says the US and Japan will be Canada's biggest partners in the near future.
