Starting Farm Safety At A Young Age

If you've got children on the farm, it's probably a good idea to brush them up on safety issues with your equipment.

Hands can get caught in balers

Children can be playing around power take-offs on tractors, and accidents can happen on ATVs. That`s why the Chatham-Kent Children`s Safety Village has made an effort to reach out to kids in rural areas to teach them about farm safety.

"Any of us will cut costs and cut time to take shortcuts," says Lovell. "We're seeing people are losing digits, arms and now lives."

But Lovell adds the hardships some families experience are now being turned into learning opportunities.

"We're working with families that have buried a child. We've worked with families who are still suffering, while all of our lives are going on. For us the passion comes from there," says Lovell.

A large group of children recently took part in Farm Safety Day at the Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village. You can check out photos from the day below.
