Chatham-Kent Cougars Take On The Burlington Stampeders

The Chatham-Kent Cougars, Bantam team are getting pumped for the semi-final playoff game against the Burlington Stampeders.

The cougars secured their spot in the playoffs by beating the Sarnia Sturgeon in a 21-14 game.

Now they're getting ready to play Burlington - a tough team to beat. The last time the two teams went head-to-head they tied 16-16.

Cougars head coach Cesar Torres says he predicts Sunday's game will be decided in the last two minutes.

"They (Cougars) know they can beat them (the Stampeders), they know it's not going to be easy but they just have a lot of confidence going into this game," says Torres.

It has taken the Cougars a few seasons to get back to the playoffs but Torres says the players have showed a lot of commitment and support for each other which has helped them get this far.

"They've worked really hard and really focused on the little things - the little goals in order for us to achieve our ultimate goal of winning a championship," says Torres.

He says as good as the players are they also have a great staff, made up of former Cougars.

"We're really proud of the fact that Cougars have come back to help out, it shows the strength of our program, it shows the commitment of people to our program," says Torres.

The Cougars have home advantage and will step onto the main field July 31 at 3pm at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.
