Planning for Canada Day 2017 Already Underway

With this year's Canada Day festivities in Chatham put together last-minute, some residents have already started prepping for next year's holiday.

Committee Chair Chris Glassford says he wants to do something big.

"The Canada Day celebration that I remember or even that some of the other communities are doing seem to be much larger," says Galssford. "You have your fireworks and amusements and just tons of fun things for the family to do and that's kind of what we want."

Glassford adds they've started looking into grants and sponsorships.

"We're trying to work out a larger corporate base for this event," says Glassford.

Questions on volunteers and activities have already started on the CK Canada Day Committee Facebook Page.

"Chatham definitely has a huge history in Canada," says Glassford. "So we definitely didn't want it to go to the side."

The first committee meeting is scheduled for June 6 at 6pm, located in the party room at BOB'S Bar Out Back. Glassford says members of the public are welcome to sit in.
