Tilbury Manor is the only long-term care home in the Erie-St. Clair LHIN to be recognized by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization.
Director of Resident Care at Tilbury Manor Sara Le hopes the designation boosts confidence in the home.
"We're hoping to improve the community's view of long-term care," Le tells BlackburnNews.com.
She says the firing of an employee found guilty of stealing viles of morphine and replacing them with water didn't play into the home's partnership with the RNAO.
"We were working towards this designation even prior to that," says Le. "Staff have really worked on processes within the home which helped us to recognize a situation an effectively follow those processes in order to ensure all the residents were safely cared for."
Tilbury Manor put in place 15 new best practice initiatives to received the RNAO designation and is further working on implementing three new best practice policies.
Le says staff at the home are thrilled to be recognized.
"We've always been doing great care, but we've increased it even further and now to get the recognition for it; we're just hoping that out in the community everbody can hear the great things that are happening in long-term care homes," says Le.
There were seven other homes across Ontario to receive the RNAO designation.
