The Chatham-Kent Cycling Festival is pedaling into its third year Saturday morning, at the Memorial Arena.
The event raises money for two programs put on by the Children’s Treatment Centre.
Event coordinator Ann McKenzie says the first includes a fleet of 14 specialized bikes, provided to children with special needs.
"The bikes can adapt to whatever their needs are," she says.
The second, she says, goes towards hosting a week-long iCan Bike Camp, geared to teaching children with special needs how to independently ride a two-wheel bicycle.
McKenzie says the day will also include courses on road safety for kids, a vendor fair, and even helmet fittings.
"With the helmet program, we're also able to replace any helmets for children free of charge, who come in with broken helmets or outdated helmets," she says. "That's a really great thing that we can offer our community."
McKenzie expects around 200 cyclists to turn up, noting registration is open right up until each ride begins.
A 100 km ride starts at 8am, followed by a 50 km ride at 9am. The 20 km starts at 10 am, and the 6 km starts at 11am.
