New CK Soccer Club

Chatham-Kent is getting a new soccer club.

South West United FC is the next step in developing local talent for club owner Jon Johnson.

The soccer coach has been running development clinics in the area for a few years and says parents and players wanted more.

"This year we had a lot of interest from the players and parents to actually sort of form something more formal, so they had somewhere to actually play and use those skills," Johnson tells BlackburnNews.com.

The new club will be a bit different from typical competitive sporting organizations.

"We don't do tryouts," says Johnson. "Tryouts are pretty much ongoing. We are a club and we invite players to come out for a trial with our club and from there we assess each individual player."

Johnson says there will be training sessions four to five times a week year-round with breaks at the end of the summer and over the Christmas holidays.

The club will being working with players in the under-8 to under-13 range with Johnson promising the players will train with a number of coaches.

"All our coaches also work with all of the squads so players get great exposure to all coaches not just stuck with the coach and style all year round," says Johnson.

The new South West United FC isn't yet registered to play in a league, but will look to enter into tournaments for competitive action.
