A Tilbury nurse who admitted to stealing narcotics from a long-term care home apologized in court before being sentenced to house arrest.
Ashley Hillman, 30, who was a registered practical nurse at the home in Tilbury pleaded guilty to theft of property under $5,000 in a Chatham courtroom on Thursday.
The court was told she opened 12 ampoules taking out the drugs and then filling them with water and gluing them back together.
The theft was discovered by other staff at the facility.
There was no evidence that residents were harmed but Judge Lucy Glenn called it a breach of trust.
Hillman's lawyer told the court she has completed a program at the Westover Treatment Centre and is doing follow-up counselling to deal with drug problems.
As well as the 90 days house arrest she will be on probation for the next year.
