The University of Windsor is working alongside the University of Waterloo and Germany's National Centre for Transportation Research to find new ways of saving lives in car crashes.
The three signed an agreement last week.
UWindsor Automotive Engineering Professor Bill Altenhof says they're looking into how vehicles can better absorb impact, as well as how to make them lighter.
"There are some very interesting capabilities of these types of structures, that just can't be exploited with the current technologies," he explains.
Altenhof would like to one day see a car be able to take on a different shape in order to avoid a deadly accident.
This agreement allows the two schools and German agency to continue sharing resources and ideas, in order to make technological advancements.
