With sunny skies and warmer temperatures in the forecast later this week, Chatham-Kent parks officials are hoping residents will fight off the urge to head out to area sports fields just a bit longer.
As crews prepare for the summer, parks officials are warning that using municipal fields could ruin the quality of the grass going forward. Parks and Horticulture Supervisor Deb Veccia explains the grass is very tender in the spring.
"When they're on the field it tends to tear up the grass because the ground conditions are very loose," says Veccia. "It basically will kill of the grass in the area they're using."
Veccia adds the John Waddell dog park on Water St. has been shut down, to allow grass to regrow over the spring. The Parks Department will update the public when fields are safe to use.
