Politics Raising Tourist Interest

The difference in politics between Canada and the United States is likely good news for tourism operators in Canada.

And Rob Taylor with the the Tourism Industry Affairs Association says it is raising Canada's profile.

"The youthful progressive policies are really carrying well in the United States, you will reach people who are watching the news, find out about this new prime minister and then start researching Canada because Canada might not have been on their radar before," he says. "We have, over the past 20 years, done a great job of investing and improving and improving the tourism products that we have, all of these things are fantastic, the problem is Americans don't know about them."

Taylor, who was in Chatham for the South West Tourism Conference this week, says it is not just dissatisfaction with Donald Trump by many Americans.

He says the "Trudeau Brand" has made a lot of people around the world start watching Canada again and for tourism that is positive.
