Windsor Reaches Record Temperature

Windsor has broken another single-day warm weather record.

Environment Canada says the temperature at Windsor International Airport reached 19.5 C (67 F) on Wednesday, which beats the previous record of 18.6 C (65 F) that was set on the same day in 2000.

Meteorologist Mark Seifert says it's not unusual for an area like Windsor to experience higher temperatures in the winter months.

"When we do get these southwest [wind] flows, which are typical when we get warmer spells, Windsor tends to get deepest into that warm air," he says."It's certainly above normal... Winters can vary from one extreme to the another, or anything in between. Certainly El Nino can have an effect."

Seifert says Windsorites can expect more of the same with the temperature expected to remain above seasonal.

"The temperatures will generally [be in] the double digits and potentially even mid-teens again through the next week," says Seifert.

Windsor has broken a number of warm weather records over the course of the winter season, including one on February 20 and another a week later on February 28.
