FINA Diving Series Coming

Windsor is among four cities around the world to host the Fina World Diving Series again this year.

This is the third year of a four year deal, however, when FINA decided to cut back on the event this year, there was a possibility Windsor wouldn't make the cut. Previously there were six stops on the tour including London, England and Merida Mexico.

Chief Technical Officer for Diving Canada Mitch Gellar says the atmosphere at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre is one of many reasons they decided to stick with Windsor.

"We were nervous about potentially loosing the event," says Gellar. "It was a pretty big coup and it speaks volumes in terms of what kind of show we put on here in Windsor and how it impacts the world of diving."

The FINA World Diving Series is in Windsor April 15-17.

"The divers when they come here and they're competing, they'll be in peak shape and they'll really, really be fighting to build the expectation of podium placings in Rio," says Gellar.

The 2016 Olympics in Rio takes place this summer.
