51 Laid Off At CS Wind

Just eight months after implementing a third shift at CS Wind in Windsor, the company has laid off 51 workers.

Director of corporate affairs, Jeff Heath, says the company will maintain all three shifts although some operations are down to two shifts.

Heath blames a lack of work.

"Our customers rescheduled some of their projects and pushed them back until later in the year," he says. "We decided to secure 40 hours of work for the top 280 senior employees. Unfortunately, the bottom 51 are on layoff.

The hope is to recall those workers in July.

"Our customers have told us that the projects will resume in the third quarter."

Workers at CS Wind just recently ratified a three-year collective agreement, but Heath says the deal was negotiated independently of the affected projects.
