UPDATE: 200 Jobs Coming To Leamington

Leamington Mayor John Paterson is expecting 200 new jobs to be created in town thanks to a provincial grant.

"The minister is coming down and our advanced information is that it's a large grant to a local firm and it will result in an additional 200 jobs at that place," says Paterson.

As BlackburnNews.com was first to report Thursday, Paterson says the announcement is set for next week, but won't say where the new hires will be needed.

Paterson points to the new jobs as showing the town has bounced back from the Heinz closure.

"Now we're up to 800 jobs and we're 200 jobs ahead of where we were and now another 200 jobs coming in and as our [economic development officer] has said, there are more announcements coming," says Paterson.

He's much happier to be talking about job gains rather than job losses.

"As positive as I was trying to be it was really hard because of the Heinz closure announcement back in those days, but this year it's easy," says Paterson. "We really are moving ahead."

Paterson made the comments regarding the new jobs at this morning's annual Mayor's Breakfast event at Colasanti's put on by the Leamington and District Chamber of Commerce.
