76 lbs Of Pot Seized At Bridge

U.S. customs officers at the Ambassador Bridge say they found 76 lbs of marijuana from a trusted trucker who only declared auto parts.

The 56-year-old U.S. man was a member of the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) trusted trader program.

On Wednesday he was referred to secondary inspection where officers performed an x-ray of the truck and allegedly found more than 76 lbs of pot.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency says officers saw "unusual shapes" in the back.

They say two large duffel bags with 68 bundles of green leafy substance were discovered.

“The Free and Secure Trade program affords low risk drivers to move through customs between the United States and Canada with minimal delay.” said John Nowak, acting port director in Detroit. “Violations will result in immediate revocation and in this case, prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”

The drugs were seized and the driver has been turned over to Homeland Security.
