Locker Covered In Tributes Following Tragedy

There has been outpouring of support at a Chatham high school following the sudden and tragic death of a student near Bothwell.

Students at John McGregor High School have taken to the boy's locker where it's now covered with messages of condolence.

Director of Education Jim Costello says they won't do anything with the locker without consulting with the family.

"It's kind of an individual thing where we want to be very respectful and hear from the family, and we will work with them to try and allow them to receive any kind of donations or memorial tributes that are appropriate and that are within their wishes," says Costello.

He adds that he will likely have a conversation with the family sometime following the funeral to determine an appropriate tribute to the youth and respect their wishes.

The 14-year-old and his friend were struck by a van on Longwoods Rd. shortly after 6pm Wednesday night. The other 14-year-old boy was only clipped by the vehicle, suffering minor injuries.

Police are still investigating the matter.
