UPDATE: Groups Short-Listed For Bridge Construction

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority is one step closer to selecting the group of companies that will build and design the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Three consortiums of engineers, architects and other contractors have been selected as the short-list respondents and will be asked to respond to the Request for Proposals (RFP). The respondents are the Legacy Link Partners, Bridging North America and the CanAm Gateway Partners.

Amico Infrastructures Inc., which is based locally in Oldcastle, is one of the partners in the Legacy Link consortium. London, Ontario-based construction company EllisDon was also a prominent partner in the CanAm Gateway consortium. The Bridging North America group included a number of other Canadian contractors including Aecon Construction, Fluor Canada Ltd., Moriyama and Teshima Architects and Dragados Canada Inc.

"The short-listed respondents represent the best in diverse international and local businesses and we look forward to the innovation, approaches and techniques these teams will bring to the table in response to the Request for Proposals," says Dwight Duncan, interim chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.

The bridge authority received submissions from a total of six teams consisting of international and North American companies, on October 9, 2015. All six were evaluated by both public and private sector experts. In the end, the three highest scoring teams were chosen for the short-list.

The RFP for the bridge is still being finalized and will be released to the respondents shortly.

The $4.8-billion Gordie Howe International Bridge is expected to be completed by 2020.
