Hundreds of fans braved a raw wind at the Hometown Hockey festival on the Sarnia waterfront Sunday.
There were various interactive displays, NHL trophies to touch and appearances by host Ron MacLean, the Tenors and hometown hockey legends Dino Ciccarelli and Pat Stapleton.
A crowd of fans gathered around the main stage at the foot of George St. across from city hall to watch the taping of a Hotstove segment featuring Ciccarelli, Stapleton and son Mike and Darryl Sittler.
Ciccarelli looked back on his hall of fame career while Stapleton recounted his experiences as a member of Team Canada in the epic 1972 Summit Series with Russia.
The popular MacLean mingled with fans before hosting the live pre-game show for the Sportsnet broadcast of the Calgary Flames at the Detroit Red Wings.
Tourism Sarnia-Lambton's Vicky Praill says the event provided great exposure for the city. "Millions of people watched the Detroit and Calgary game and were able to see what our community is all about," says Praill.
"I'm sure now a lot of them will want to come visit and enjoy what they were able to see on TV."
The broadcast featured Sarnia-born former astronaut Chris Hadfield, former Sting stars Steven Stamkos, Alex Galchenyuk and Nail Yakupov and current Sting prospect Jakob Chychrun.
